Answer:
The short answer: It's pretty expensive. Encinitas is in the top 0.6% of most expensive cities worldwide, ranked at 59 out of 9,294 locations analyzed. The average cost of living is $3,117/month, making it the 44th highest among the 2,220 American cities surveyed and the 32nd highest in California's 300+ municipalities. Questions like this are tricky, as statistics can be manipulated in various ways. My personal (Paul) opinion is "I feel very safe in Encinitas." Keep in mind I lock up my home and car, and I'm not out and about late into the evening very often. It is recommended you do your own research if this is a concern. This crime map may be helpful.
